Service Mesh and eBPF Ambient Mode
Traditional service meshes inject a sidecar proxy into every pod, which costs memory, CPU, and operational complexity. Ambient mode moves L4/L7 processing into a shared node-level proxy built on eBPF and ztunnel, cutting per-pod overhead while keeping mTLS and policy. The trade-off is a newer, less battle-tested data path versus the well-understood sidecar model.
