Edge databases replicate data to locations close to users for low latency, which forces a choice between strong consistency (slow, coordinated) and eventual consistency (fast, conflict-prone). Conflict-free Replicated Data Types (CRDTs) make eventual consistency safe by construction: concurrent edits merge deterministically without coordination.
